Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Regardless of disability, every child is identified as an individual. I understand that they each have their own personal needs that are to be met. I will risk asses my home and garden area to ensure they are safe and I will carefully plan to support their development and learning.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I will up-date you verbally on the day your child attends regarding their daily activity. I will also provide a learning journal including pictures (with written permission) in order for you to visually see their progress. I am able to use a variety of communication methods to suit you.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

With careful planning, I will quarterly decide on activities and outings to support your child's development in compliance with the 7 areas of learning set out by the EYFS

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I have undergone a makaton course allowing me to effectively communicate by sign with babies, toddlers children and young adults with additional needs. I will use visuals and use repetition in my learning.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

My setting can provide the support for children with additional needs from young babies to school children. My playroom is adapted for sensory sessions including lighting, vibrations, music and complete with foam flooring. I continue to attend workshops in order to administer medicine, understand children with additional needs and how to work effectively with the children and their families to support their development.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

I will track your child's progress every 3-6 months. We will work closely together from the very beginning to establish the stage of your child's development and how we can make progress in my setting and continue at home.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I will ensure all the activities planned have been risk assessed and adapted to allow your child to participate.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

I have wide doors allowing wheelchair access however the main front entrance is above a step so restricting access for mobility users.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I will teach life skills such as pulling up zips and the importance of personal hygiene for example, brushing hair and washing hands. I will liase with the new setting including schools to advise accurate details regarding your child's development. All supported evidence such as the learning journal can be passed on.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I carry out self assessments daily to establish what works in my setting and what doesn't. I will keep up-to-date with training and ask for parental feedback. I may present you with a short questionnaire to fill and we will review your child's progress every 3-6 months.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

West Berkshire Early Years team.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I welcome all kinds of feedback whether its negative or positive. Negative criticism allows me to reflect on my setting and how I can improve to provide a better service. Positive feedback allows me to identify what I have in place works for the children and the setting. I will listen or read this feedback at any given time. I have a clear complaints policy in place which will be available for the parents/carers to access. This will provide the procedure if you have a complaint and the relevant contact details to make the complaint to.
