Helen & Douglas House

Helen & Douglas House provides specialist hospice care for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions and those who are seriously and terminally ill (0-18 years). The charity also provides support to the wider family through a person's illness and in bereavement.

Helen & Douglas House works in close partnership with other health and care professionals (in hospital and community settings) to provide age-appropriate palliative care that is tailored to individual needs. We provide nursing and medically-supported stays at the hospice offering specialist palliative and symptom management care for complex and developing conditions, including at end of life. We seek to enable a quality of life in line with individuals' capabilities and desires. 

In-patient care is provided at the hospice located in east Oxford as well as in your own home or hospital setting supporting other professional. 

 

 

Costs

There is no charge to the users of Helen & Douglas House As a charity, we rely on support to keep our doors open. Every donation makes a big difference to the help we can offer terminally ill children and families facing the devastating loss of a child.

Activity Period

Service provides 24 hour specialist palliative care support and advise 7 days a week

Local Offer

  • General 3 How are referrals / applications made to your service, include details of who can refer/apply and referral and application process

    Anyone can make a referral (with the person's permission).  

    Referrals are evaluated using the hospice's assessment criteria (based on national standards), and contacts made with key health professionals involved in the person's care.  

    The hospice can accept emergency referrals at short notice, as well as referrals for planned supportive care.
