Inclusion Criteria

The Directory includes details about the following types of organisation/service/activity.

1. Area

Clubs, groups, organisations and services based in West Berkshire, including areas bordering West Berkshire that our residents would typically travel to for an activity or service. We'll also consider regional organisations running a service or activity in West Berkshire.

Exceptions: We'll consider putting a regional or national organisation on the Directory if there's a gap in local services.

2. Type

Voluntary, community, faith, and statutory organisations. Also care providers and childcare organisations including childminders, playgroups, after school clubs, schools, nurseries, and children’s entertainers.

Exceptions: We'll consider including a commercial organisation that's a social enterprise or provides a community benefit (particularly those that help people to improve their quality of life/help people stay independent, safe and well). These include:

  • education and training
  • tutors
  • education classes
  • sport and leisure
  • dance, martial arts, keep fit and yoga classes
  • leisure centres
  • health and wellbeing
  • psychotherapists (if a member of a professional body)
  • healthy eating and weight management
  • complementary health (such as osteopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture, herbal medicine and homeopathy, if a member of a professional body)
  • social care registered providers of social care support (such as Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered). This includes home support and residential care
  • Non-registered support services like cleaners, home support services, befriending support, where the support does not require CQC registration
  • handyperson and gardening services
  • activities, clubs, hobby clubs, groups that promote socialisation and/or wellbeing
  • activities that support those with additional needs
  • home visiting hairdressers, chiropodists, opticians
  • transport public transport providers providing accessible taxis, minibus etc
  • housing social landlords
  • events 

Priority will be given to local services and community organisations. West Berkshire Directory is not intended to replace other sources of information about local businesses. Entries from ethical, legal businesses will be considered if they support the aim of the directory and support 'social capital', meaning that they offer services that contribute directly to the quality of people's lives, empowering them to live independently and healthily, for example helping to connect people with social networks.

Exclusions

  1. Organisations which do not supply any contact details, like: telephone, email or website.
  2. Organisations that do not supply an adequate description of their service or activity within the body of their record.
  3. We reserve the right to remove or suspend any content without notice or explanation.

Review

Our inclusion/exclusion criteria was reviewed in April 2025. We will review it again in April 2026.
