Childcare 1 How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND
Staff monitor children's progress and discuss concerns with the SENCo.
Our dedicated trained SENCo works 3 days a week assessing children, planning for their needs and supporting staff with the strategies best suited for them. -
Childcare 2 How will I be informed / consulted about the way sin which my child is being supported
This will vary based on the individual needs and preferences of each family. However we aim to provide termly updates via our Parents Afternoons and Famly. The team are always available at drop off/pick up, on the phone or at a prearranged meeting to discuss face to face.
-
Childcare 3 How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child’s needs
The team at Kennet Valley have vast experience with GAP's and SAPP's to monitor, assess and implement adaptations needed for each child. There is no "one size fits all", each adaptation will vary depending on the needs of the child.
-
Childcare 4 What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties
We have a dedicated Level 3 trained SENCo, a qualified ELSA and most of the staff have done at least level one Makaton. We use Makaton throughout our setting alongside visual aids and strategies from the EDIT support guidance. Depending on the needs or difficulties the child has we would adapt our strategies accordingly.
-
Childcare 5 What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND
Where a child has additional needs we aim to provide the highest support possible. This will vary depending on the needs of each child and their family. Our staff have lots of experience both professionally and personally of supporting children with SEND and their families.
-
Childcare 6 How will the setting monitor my child’s progress and how will I be involved in this
We provide updates via our Parents Afternoons and Famly (our online portal). Children with SEND will also be monitored and assessed regularly by our SENCo. Parents will be involved via face to face meetings at each review of their child's Support and Achievement Play Plan. The team are always available at drop off, pick up or face to face. Each child has a designated keyworked with whom the family can talk as often as they'd like.
-
Childcare 7 How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips
By building a solid relationship with both the child and their families we understand their needs, their behaviours and the support they need. This enables us to adapt the activities to include all our children.
-
Childcare 8 How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users
Very accessible - there is a ramp at the entrance, the corridor is wide and our walkways around the hall can be modified easily if needed.
-
Childcare 9 How will you support my child’s transition to a new setting or school
We work closely with Primary Schools in the area. If your child was changing setting we'd invite their new keyworker to join us for a session and offer their Caterpillar keyworker to go with them for a settling in session at their new setting. We share information across settings, when appropriate and with the consent of the carer.
-
Childcare 10 How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in the evaluation
Regular training, updates and assessments are carried out with the staff, parents and relevant local authorities.
-
Childcare 11 Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting
Tara Dunbar 07824 888 197 www.kennetvalleycaterpillars.co.uk/register-here
-
Childcare 12 What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints
Our complaints procedure is available to all parents via our policies and procedures folder in reception. We aim to carry out termly surveys for parents to give anonymous feedback and most of all, we talk to our parents/families regularly.
