Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Every child is unique.

I provide parents with a daily diary of their child which shows Individual acheivement and daily activities . It can be accessed by parents at any time and Parents are encouraged to contribute towards the Early Years framework and add their own obsverartions and notes if they so wish.

I am always observing and interacting with the children in my care on a daily basis and know them all well. I provide parents with  verbal as well as the written breakdown of our day.

I pride myself on my open approach to communication and I am readily available to discuss the childs developemental progress and needs at any time.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I will work closely with parents verbaly and through written diaries on a daily basis and share the development ideals and goals of their child. Communication is very important.  I will follow suggestions and advice from both parents and other professionals and regulary refresh my own training needs.

I will give the children confidence, through gentle encouragment and plenty of praise. I will listen to them and help  them acheive their individual learning goals, build self worth and grow in independance.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

I refer to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. I look at the childs age and their individual abilities. Every child is unique and develops differently. By using the EYFS as a guide and looking at the childs age I am able to plan accordingly for each area and need. I can plan providing individual tasks and group activities using the childrens "likes"  .Including different medias and interesting materials within my setting will help stimulate interest and encourage participation and growth.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Ihave completed a higher CACHE Level 4 SEN qualification.  I dont have any children in my setting at the moment that have additonal learning needs or difficulties, however I would ensure that if the circumstances were to change that I provide the relevant resources such as pictures, flash cards etc to support the child and undertake any training required. I would seek guidance and work closely with other professionals and setttings to gain greater knowledge and understanding.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I plan according to childrens age and developmental needs. Every child is unique and develops at different levels. I would provide activities that everyone can enjoy and participate in as well as one on one . I will liase with parents and seek further training and support for myself to ensure that I am able to provide the best support and resources for all in my care.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

The monitoring of each childs progress will be recorded in the daily journals and regular observations that I complete using the EYFs guidelines. These documents are available to parents at all times. Should an area of need be identified I will communicate with the parent face to face and provide a written document. Working together with my parents and other support networks if required will ensure that the child receives all relevant resources,  support and understanding they require to progress emotionally, physically and developmentary.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I try to provide activities and outings that are appropriate for all the children in my setting, I will adapt accordingly for each child subject to thier age, development and individual health requirements.

Every trip is risk assesed , i ensure that the children feel comfortable, safe and secure and able to benefit from our trips thus empowering learning.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

I dont feel wheel chair access to my premisis is suitable due my home being very busy with to pushchairs and seating arrangements. however the bathroom, kitchen and main living space is all located on the ground floor and at one level. There is only a small step up into the door way of the house.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I feel it is my responsibilty to make any transition from my setting to new as smooth and stress free for all involved especially the children. Where possible, I will link up to the new setting and encourge settling in sessions. I will support the child by taking them to those session and by talking about what, where and why. Regular conversations with the child about the experience and answering any questions he or she may have will  help ease any stresses. Providing the learning documentation I have created to the other setting will ensure that the current development and needs of the child will be adhered to and that planning can be put in place to support the child from the start..

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Through regular planning and observations I am able to provide the correct level of care and development resources for the children in my care. Each child has a journal that records our daily routine, activities and includes any observations undertaken.

I comunicate with my parents at the end of each day and I am available to discuss their needs at any time via email, telephone or face to face. I ask parents to complete a questionnaire on my settting which enables them to express any areas of improvement or praise. I also have a complaints proceedure by the main exit to the home which parents  can take descretly , alternatively it provides clear contact details of the relevant bodies to whom a complaint can be dealt with.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Contact should be made with myself Sabrina Ward.

Via email : Sabrinakimward@outlook.com

Telephone: 0118 9306 255 or  07882 713807

I also readily have available parental feed back for viewing.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

Questionnaires are given to parents to complete seeking opinions and suggestions on my setting,  I also have a complaints procedure.  Both enable parents to leave feedback and let me know what areas they feel i can improve and to leave positive feedback.

I have a good working relationship with my parents and welcome feed back during our daily conversations.
