The Montessori equipment we use in the nursery are sensorial.

We are an inclusive setting.

The indoor space has three interlinking rooms.

The nursery is in a rural setting with plenty of outside space - a garden with a small wooded area and a hard area for different ride on vehicles. ,

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

An 'all about me' pack goes out to the parents/cares before their child starts. If the child has already had a diagnosis the parents/carers should divulge the information to us.

In the setting, careful observations are taken to ensure that each child is working within the broad age ranges within the EYFS. If we feel any child may need additional support, we will discuss this with the parents in the first instance and suggest ways that further support could be found.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

Regular discussion/meetings to advise parents/carers of their child's development. By working together, parents can be assured that all matters relating to their child will be discussed with them before outside help is sourced.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Development Matters does not put children into 'boxes'! The broad age ranges that we work with allow us to identify when a child is working within the expected development area and those who may need additional help. The document also helps us to identify children who are exceeding.

The seven areas of learning cover the broad curriculum of the EYFS.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Each child has their own 'learning journal' in which we record the child's progress. Next steps are identified and for children with either additional needs or learning difficulties are supported according to that need. All staff are responsive and aware of child development. Every child is supported to reach their potential.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

Once identified, children who need additional help may have 1:1 support or direct support from their named carer. Appropriate training will be sought if needed.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Through observations. Parents/carers kept fully informed at all times. If SAPP forms are required for completion these can be done within the setting.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

No child is excluded from any activities provided indoors or outside the setting. We pride ourselves in how we make sure every child can feel involved regardless of their circumstances.

We do not arrange outside trips, however we do invite the community to our setting to broad the children's knowledge.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

The building is on one floor and is accessible to all.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Each child is considered individually to ensure that their own transitions are smooth and worry free for the parents, for example we would invite the reception teacher to our setting to meet with us, the parents and the child in familiar surroundings for the child's benefit.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

We assess annually at this time to ensure that our provision meets the needs of every child. We involve parents/carers by distributing questionnaires to establish their views which are important to us.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

The manager, Rhian Rees 01488 208652.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

We have a folder in which we do place any comments, concerns and compliments. We display our thank you cards in the foyer for all visitors to peruse.

Feedback forms are included in the children's learning journals for parents/carers to comment on and we encourage verbal feedback.
