Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Our setting is very lucky to have two SENCO who work closely together with all Preschool staff.

The Keyperson would assess the child in the first instance using the graduated approach - Assess, plan, do, review.

Assess - make regular assessments to ensure support be matched to needs.

Plan - Record any interventions and support given.

Do - Implement the interventions and support given.

Review - Evaluate the support and the impact on the child's progress.

Parents are involved at all stages for the above and have regular meetings with the SENCO.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We work closely with parents of children with special educational needs to create and maintain a positive partnership. The SENCO discusses with the parents the ways the preschool are supporting their child and reviews are held on a regular basis. An Early Years Support and Achievement Play Plan (SAPP)  will be put in place. This shows targets that the child will work towards and it is reviewed regularly.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

We have a free flow system at Preschool where the children can access all things during the Preschool session, both inside and out.

All staff would be aware of a child with SEND and would ensure that they are able to access everything that is available.

All staff are aware of differentiation and regular meetings are held to ensure a balanced programme.

We use an Early Years Support and Achievement Play Plan (SAPP) to support provision for SEND with continual observations and assessments being track progress.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

We use visual timetables, portable visual prompts for the staff and visual prompts for the children.

Depending on the requirements of the child, different strategies would be put in place with regards to language and communication.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

Depending on the needs of the child we do social skills groups with a small number of children that the child chooses.

We have small adult led activities for phonic skills. If the child has support assistant they would provide extra support for the child.

We access Education Psychology Services, Preschool Teacher Counsellors and Preschool SEND funding from the Local Authority.

We would have regular meetings with the parents and SENCO to talk about the support services being offered and the SENCO would ensure it is being implemented.

We work closely with the parents and outside agencies, who are the support for the family, and ensure that any advice is put into practice.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

The child is assessed continually and the SENCO, Keyperson or Preschool Manager are in attendance daily to be able to talk to the parents if required.

A termly meeting is always held with the parents and SENCO to look at the Early Years Support and Education Plan (SAPP) and see if the parents wish anything else to be added to it. Progress is monitored on the SAPP regularly and comments made when targets are met.

The Preschool has regular parents meetings and evenings and keyworkers are available to talk to parents by appointment.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

A child with SEND would have a support assistant that would be with them on a trip. When undertaking the risk assessment for the trip the needs of the SEND child would be taken into consideration along with the needs of the other children.

We would discuss any trips outside of the Preschool with the parents to ensure that any additional needs are covered.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

The building has level access for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users. We have automatic doors and plenty of space for moving around.

We have a disabled parking space available if required.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

We work closely with the child’s new setting or school and can arrange additional visits with Preschool staff to the school. We talk with the SENCO at the new setting and discuss the needs of the child prior to the transition to school.

We have additional meetings with the child’s new teacher and invite them to make extra visits to see the child at Preschool before they transfer.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

We have a SEND policy that is reviewed by the committee on a yearly basis. The Preschool Manager regularly assesses the settings SEN provision with the assistance of the SENCO. Any required changes are made and communicated with the Preschool Committee.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

To register your child at our Preschool you need to complete an enrolment form. If you wish to talk about registering at our setting, you can contact our Preschool Manager and SENCO to discuss the child’s individual requirements before starting.

Further details can be found on our website www.tccpreschool.co.uk

Our admissions policy can be viewed on the website.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

The first point of contact for feedback, compliments and complaints from parents is Alison Hemmings, Preschool Manager.

She can be contacted during Preschool hours (9am to 3pm) Monday to Friday on 01635 872008 or via manager@tccpreschool.co.uk
