Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

I maintain close contact with each child's family, key workers at pre-school, class teachers at school and any other important people involved in their lives; I also form strong bonds with the children so that I am aware of any changes which may impact their lives.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I complete a daily diary for each child I care for using an online system that parents can access on a computer or mobile device. I am always available to discuss a child's progress or parental concerns either over the phone or in a face to face meeting at a mutually convenient time.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Every child learns in a different way and I try to ensure that each activity I provide is accessible to all children in my care regardless of any additional needs.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I work closely with parents and other professionals involved in an additional needs child's day to day life and create a plan relevant to that child.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I work closely with parents and other professionals involved in an additional needs child's day to day life and create a plan relevant to that child.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

All EYFS children's progress is monitored regularly and reports sent to parents.  I also arrange face to face meetings with parents at least twice a year, more often if required.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I ensure that all activities I plan will be accessible to all children in my care, I risk assess and work with parents to ensure that I have covered all areas that a particular child may need support with and work with other professionals to get additional support/equipment if required

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

Currently my home is not set up for wheelchair users, however if a parent wished to send a child who had mobility difficulties to me I would work with the parents/other professionals to ensure that child could access my home.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I work closely with my local pre-school and primary school to ensure that all children have a smooth a transition as possible, this includes regular visits, discussion with parents, child and teachers, role play activities and books.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I ask for feedback from parents as and when something in my setting changes, I keep up to date with any legislation changes and I spend time doing regular self evaluation/reflection on my practice in all areas, including SEN

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Laura van Eyck 0744 342 6026 or 01189 620985 email: lauravaneyck@live.co.uk

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I have an online system where parents can leave feedback, they can also email or call me at anytime
