I set up Sweet Briar childminding after 10 years working with children in a wide range of settings, from home based childcare, nurseries and schools to specialist residential care. As a Mum I have developed a new layer of understanding to add to my experience and wanted to create a setting which provides the kind of childcare I would want to use.
Sweet Briar Childminding is first and foremost a family environment, our living space is open plan, and has free-flow access to an outdoor deck area. We are located next to a beautiful park and also have a large accessible garden. Every day we go for walks with our family dog, and regularly take other trips to children's venues and groups. I use an online diary and development tracking software system to keep parents up to date throughout the day.
Meal times and snacks are had together as a group and I can also provide home-cooked balanced meals.

- Description
SEND provision has always been a passion of mine, and I hope to create a setting that reflects this.
I have worked as a 1:1 learning support within mainstream schools, as a SENDCo at a nursery, and as a support worker in a specialist residential school for children and young people with severe autism. I will use all my experience and passion to support any child with additional needs or SEND who attends my setting and also support their families throughout their time with me.- Contact Name

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings
Using dedicated software I will track the development of children in my care and monitor when they are achieving milestones. If i were to become concerned about a child's development I would work alongside parents and professionals to support the child and their family
I use software called Babys Days, this is accessible by the parents of all children I care for, all observations, next steps and support strategies are documented on here. When supporting a child with additional needs or SEND I will also correspond closely with their family and aim to support them as well as the child; where ever possible using strategies that can be continued at home too.
A key principle of the EYFS is that all children are unique, therefore all children's needs are met on an individual basis, this includes any child with additional needs or SEND. I do this by using a child led and in the moment planning, to follow a child's interests and extend their learning within their play. I use a cycle of observation, assessing and extending and evaluating, in which I observe the children, assess the next step for them, extend their current play to help them to achieve it and then evaluating progress and how else I can support them.
I have experience using PECS to support communication, I have experience using the TEACCHH approach used to support children and young adults with autism. I also have had TEAM TEACH training for positive behavior management
All children who attend my setting are all treated as individuals and their unique needs are supported on a case by case basis. If a child who has additional needs of SEND attends my settings I will do my best to support them and will seek additional training and professional advice to enable me to do so.
Parents have their own log in details they can see the observations and trackers for their child and are encouraged to add their own observations too.
All activities and trips are risk assessed and can be adapted to ensure that additional needs are met and all children can participate meaningfully and safely.
There are steps to access this setting.
I understand open clear communication is essential in planning for a successful transition. I will also provide any additional support such as preparing the child for their new setting and sending any relevant information to the new setting.
Regular communication is encouraged, and support from Rutland Early Years agency is available for both the setting and the Parents.
