Mental Health - Eight Bells for Mental Health Support Group, Newbury
Eight Bells for Mental Health offers a welcoming and supportive environment to anyone who is experiencing mental health issues in Newbury, Thatcham and surrounding areas.
The charity work tirelessly to help members improve their lives, wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem through volunteering and training opportunities, access to projects, a range of activities and peer support from a dedicated team of volunteers.
The group will help service users overcome stigma, prejudice, discrimination and isolation so they can enjoy a quality of life others take for granted. Offering advice on a range of issues such as finance, housing, benefits, and employment and are able to refer members for specialist counselling and support if their mental health deteriorates.
Eight Bells is a uniquely members-led organisation where service users have a hand and say in the way the charity runs and elect their own management committee at an annual AGM.
The group's longest-serving members offer basic mentoring and a one-to-one friendship scheme to new and more vulnerable service users which has been hugely successful.
This award-winning set group meets every Monday afternoon, other activities include:
- meditation and yoga
- day trips
- access to courses such as Food Health and Hygiene, First Aid, Mental Health lite Courses
along with the following services:
- Peer Support
- Advocacy support on a range of issues such as housing, benefits, finance etc
- Referrals for counselling, mental health appointments and other services
- Coffee Club
- No referrals required
1-1 CBT Therapy sessions available on Thursdays and Fridays
NEW Nature Therapy session on Friday mornings 10am to 1pm
There are laptops and high-speed Broadband for members’ use and a catering team which offers s freshly cooked lunch at every session.

Eight Bells receives a number of referrals from GP’s, the Community Mental Health Team, West Berkshire Council's Adult Social Care teams, and other health professionals and organisations as well as private families and individuals.
A referral is not required though, members who would like to join are asked to fill in a confidential membership form.
