Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

I have monitored childrens learning and completed two year checks which has been given to health visitor and from this two children have been referred to speech therapy and eligible for the 2 year funding

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I send home learning journals every term to see child's development, send pictures and messages via whatsapp and a happy to help with speech therapy etc as advised by parents

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

We do a lot of learning through play, I have trackers and termly reports on children that I use to put together a child's next steps to help them with their development.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

The children I have had in the setting that have speech therapy I have been given information from parents as to how to help them, which I do.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I am happy to have sensory toys and items to help a child in my setting. I am however unable to have large equipment or space for wheelchair etc

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

When I send home learning journals I ask for parents to sign to say they have received it but also ask for any input, especially a child who is term time as a lot can change in their learning in 6 weeks

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

The trips I go on are always within walking distance as I do not drive. I do care for a child in the holidays whose mobility is not very good so I do not go very far on the days I have her or we stay within the setting

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

The house is not accessible for wheelchair users

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Before a child starts school I start to get them to become more independent, putting coat on, shoes on and using the toilet. We will also do more learning with shapes, numbers, drawing and writing.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I do my best to help and make sure everything is discussed before a child starts in the setting so that we have what is needed in place.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Mel Collins

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I have a complaints book if needed and send out questionnaires to parents every 6 months for feedback. I also ask for references when I have Ofsted come or someone leaves the setting.
