I live in a semi-detached house on the outskirts of Calcot near Reading very close to bus stops and easy parking.

We have a fair sized secure garden with mud kitchen, slides and trikes

As a childminder I strive to provide a warm and caring environment as I welcome each child into my home.

I am active in the community spending time at local parks, toddler groups, rhyme time, libraries, childrens centre and also with another  local childminder who the children get to know really well and they may be able to cover (in case of sickness or holidays) and this also gives them a little circle of friends.

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

The needs of the children who are new to my provision are identified through discussions with their parents/carers,this enables me to identify the starting points in your childs learning journey.>As part of my usual practice I monitor and make observations of children at play and at other times and I carry out a development check called the 2 year progress check and share this with parents. If this highlights any concerns,or you feel your child is not progressing well we will have a chat and decide how best to support your child and I talk with all my parents at the start and end of each day.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

As a childminder I give continuous care-supporting your child whilst they are away from home. This helps build confidence and positive self-esteem, helping your child to feel secure emotionally and physically. I share each childs learning Journey with parents/carers and communicate regulary via a daily diary, phone, text or email.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Children develop at their own rates and in their own ways and have their own individual needs.I plan activities and experiences that will follow your childs interests and build on the skills they have. They will have a Learing Journal:this will contain written observations, photographs and samples of your childs work to support assessment and planning to help your childs progress to their next steps in learing.Parents contribute to the planning by letting me know about their childs new skills or interests at home. I will make sure that the environment, routines and activities support your childs needs.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Days are planned so that children feel secure in their routine. I can use picture boards/photographs, large print books, flash cards and makaton signs to help with communication. I can also share and borrow resources from other childminders and the local toy library.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I will dicuss their childs needs with parents/carers and find out the details of the other professionals involved and resources needed to ensure childrens needs are supported. I will then work as closely as needed with the relevent professional. All children are supported so that they can join in carefully planned activities for their developmental ability.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Each child will have a learning journey folder that contains: written observations, photographs and examples of their work which parents can look at and take home as they wish and also add to it. Parents/carers can talk to me at drop off and collection and I also communicate via text, phone, email and by daily diarys

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

All children are supported so that they can join in carefully planned activities for their developmental ability.

As a childminder I have an inclusive service and this is naturally extended to all activities including outside and trips.

All trips are risk assessed taking into consideration all children in my care and planned with each childs needs accounted for.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

Access through the front and back door both have a high step. The toilet is on the first floor.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

When a child moves to school or another setting i will discuss it with the child a few weeks beforehand and i can take them on visits if needed and staff could also visit my setting and i will do a transition report to go to the new setting and with your permission they can see your childs learning journey

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

work very closely with parents/carers and other professionals and will follow their advice. I aslo do regular self evaluation of my provision and activities. Parents are asked if they can fill in a questionnaire once a year to make sure my service is meeting their childs needs. And I always welcome feedback from parents/carers at any time.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Please contact: Fiona Ryan Registered Childminder Mobile 07809100411 Email fionas-childminding@hotmail.co.uk

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I will send out questionnaires and they can also write in daily diarys. I also welcome feedback via chatting face to face, phone call, text or email because working in partnership with parents/carers is very important for the care and support of your child. I have a complaints procedure in place and parents/carers will be aware of this and have a copy.
