Newbury & Thatcham Welfare Trust - small grants available

Financial relief provided to individuals in need who are sick, disabled, convalescent or infirm and live in one of the parishes of West Berkshire.

Who is eligible for a grant?

The Trust has a modest income from investments and is able to make small grants for items, services or facilities that will provide relief for individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

• There must be an identified medical and financial need – The Trust are unable to consider applications that only meet one of those needs.

and

• The individual must live in one of the parishes of West Berkshire.

The Trustees can consider applications for a wide variety of items, services or facilities so long as the need is clear.  However there are certain restrictions, for example, it is not possible to consider applications to repay debt or cover council tax, rent or mortgage payments.

There must be an identified medical AND financial need – we are unable to consider applications that only meet one of those needs.

Referral Details

The Trust is unable to accept a direct application from the individual seeking support. Applications must be made on their behalf by a health professional (GP, Health Visitor etc), recognised support agency (Citizens Advice Bureau, Social Worker), or another charitable organisation – and must include a supporting letter or email.

Applications can be considered as they arise, and subject to the approval of Trustees, a decision can usually be made within one month.
