Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Each child is regularly observed and assessed in order to ensure they are making good progress and activities are then carefully planned and tailored in order to encourage further development. We discuss each child's progress with their parents/carers, making sure any developmental concerns are addressed immediately. This ensures each child reaches their full potential.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We communicate with parents using a two-way daily diary, telephone, in person, e mail or text message, whichever is the most effective for each family. Every child has a learning journal which is available for the parent to take and read whenever they wish. This communication is really important to ensure that parents are fully involved in their child's care promoting the best outcome for each child.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

When planning our activities we take into account each child's unique assessment planning, the interest of the child and the way in which they learn best in order for the children to get the most from each activity. We use both child and adult led activities.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Using the their individual assessment plan each child is supported and guided in the planned activities. We work alongside both parents and other professionals to ensure the best outcome for each child. We are happy to undertake any training necessary to ensure that we have the ability to adopt the best possible strategies for each child.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

We would work closely with the relevant professional and parents to ensure continuity of specialist support and carefully plan activities on an individual basis to help the child achieve their full potential.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Each child's progress is monitored through observation and assessment and recorded in their daily diary and in their learning journal. This is shared with the parents and the next steps planned.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Through careful planning involving parents, and where necessary other professionals, every child can be supported in all activities.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

The building is not accessible to full-time wheelchair users due to numerous steps, however, it would be possible to accomodate a wheelchair for a short period of time. We would willingly discuss any mobility requirements with parents.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

We promote every child visits a new setting including our own prior to their starting in order to help the settle in. We are happy for new children to visit us for arranged visits, without charge, for a period of weeks prior to their starting. We talk with children about new settings and schools, introducing them to fellow pupils at schools where we are able.We provide transition reports for children that are moving from our setting to another setting or school which summarises their development.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Ongoing self evaluation alongside feedback from parents, pre-nursery, nursery, school and other professionals is used to ensure and improve the effectiveness of the provision.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Teresa Stroud, Laura Ward or Amy Ward would welcome any enquiries about registering your child at the setting on 01488 683324.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

Working with the parents of the children at our setting is paramount to success, therefore, all feedback is acknowledged and actioned, where appropriate. We do have a complaints policy should the need arise, this is given to all parents when they register their child.
