Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Through observations, planning and evaluation the each childs online 'Learning Journey' the keyworker is able to highlight areas of difficulties and greater need. Through working closely with parents and listening to their worries or concerns with regards to their child’s progress we are able to identify and hopefully elevates or signpost to professional outside agencies.

After each child 2nd birthday we complete a 2 year check, which overviews each child’s progress and attainment. We then host a meeting to share and review the child’s progress with parent and other professional that may be working with the family.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We have daily contact with parents/careers as the children delivered or collect from the kindergarten and feedback information on their daily activities.

We regularly observe, review and evaluate each child’s achievements and personal development by documenting in their individual learning journey, which is shared with parents.

We have an open door policy where parents can always spend time talking to their childs keyworker and reviewing their progress.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

By setting up an ;Early Years Support and Achievement Play Plan’ (SAPP) with parental input we are able to facilitate each child’s immediate needs and extend their learning to meet the milestones within the early years foundation stage statuary framework.

We have a child centre environment whereby all equipment is accessible to all and additional support is offered ensuring access at all times. (Bathroom, outside play areas, layout of play rooms)

Our staff have a great understanding of the EYFS curriculum and their ability to break down each element into smaller tasks, making them more attainable for all.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Our staff are constantly reviewing their training needs, enabling them to meet the high standards we set for all our children. We have a high staff ratio, giving the opportunity for the keyworker to have 1:1 time with each child using techniques that support their learning, these include: makaton sign language, visual timetable and prompts, exercise activity plans and time out listening and making special time.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

With the help of funding we are able to provide a 1:1 staffing if appropriate, we offer highly experienced dedicated staff, wheelchair access to all areas both inside and out.

We have fantastic stimulating gardens, offering space and the opportunity for challenge with climbing and balance, exploring nature and gardening along with sensory, music and soft play equipment. This gives all children the opportunity to express themselves and be an individual.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Each child has an individual learning journey that is created and maintained by their keyworker. Alongside with this we will have in place an 'Early years support and achievement plan' (play plan) which is created by the child’s parents, keyworker and the settings SENDCO.

The play plan will be regularly reviewed and progress monitored and if necessary help from other agencies may be requested. Support from parents by creating a diary/log of events that may take place at home; this will be shared with the keyworker.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

We plan and design the play rooms to support maximum movement and access for all. We have ramps enabling access and supporting independence and full involvement both in our adventure gardens and play rooms.

We have an 'Inclusive Play Policy' offering additional adult support in areas ensuring all children can be involved. This also includes visits to the park, nature environments, swimming and walks.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

We have a ramp entrance to the building with wide doors and a accessible toilet. We have large spacious rooms to faciliate the needs of all of all children and all play activities and resources are at the;childrens level.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

We work closely with parents and new schools/settings to ensure the smooth transitions for the children, tailored to their individual needs.

Visits from the new schools/settings are encouraged during the childs sessions with us. We also faciliate visits to new schools/settings, forming good links for the child, to support their smooth transition. The child's learning journey and any play plans are shared with the SENDCo of the new setting.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Our dedicated SEND co-ordinator regularly attends SEND courses relating to the needs of the children caring for and this is implemented during the childs day. We also hold regular meeting with parents and other proffessional the child is in contact to pass on information, activity work plans and together evaluate the childs progress.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Boot Farm Kindergarten has two SENCO

Amy Bridger (Manager) and Kirsty Butler (Room Senior) www.bootfarmkindergarten.com

Telephone number: 0118 9816619

During Kindergarten sessions Amy and Kirsty have the overarching responsibility for all children with additional needs and the staff's awareness and training needs as appropriate. They themselves have attended various SEND courses and have had many years experience in working with children with SEND and disabilities.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

We have policies in place should parents need to raise concerns or a complaint. The children's learning journeys are online which enables parents responces and feedback on observations and the childrens development.

We have an open door policy and regular meetings with the child's key worker, SENDCO and Kindergarten management along with termly parents evenings.
