Free Directory Enquires
If you are having difficulties accessing the telephone directory, you can apply to sign up to the free BT Directory Enquiry service. Once you have joined the service, all you do is call 195 and you can speak to an operator who will find the number you require. You do not have to be a customer of BT to be eligible for this service. Articles for the Blind free postage scheme
Royal Mail operate a scheme called Articles for the Blind which allows Blind and Partially Sighted people to send certain items of post free of charge. Items covered by the scheme include books, papers, large print letters, Braille items, computer discs and CDs which have been prepared specifically for visually impaired people. Royal Mail treats items sent by the scheme as first class mail. Energy suppliers and meter readings
If you are unable to see to read your meters then your energy supplier can arrange for a meter reader to visit you quarterly to do this for you. You can also arrange with your energy suppliers a password of your choice so that when their meter readers visit you they identify themselves using this password.
