Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Through teacher and SENCO observations and assessments we identify children with additional needs or SEND.Reception children complete Dyslexia screening test in the summer term.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We have an 'Open Door' policy so we are able to inform parents daily. We also arrange meetings to discuss further information.

We have parents evening in the autumn and spring term.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

The teachers differentiate lessons, teaching, activities and learning to support children's individual needs. Small group and adult one to one activities are planned for. Additional resources are also purchased to support children's needs.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

The teachers use a multi sensory approach to support children with additional needs. Teaching is visual, audio and physical supporting active learning.

Teaching is delivered to whole class, small groups and one to one.

Children with additional learning needs or learning difficulties are given a Support and Achievement plan (SAP) with identified targets to support the child's learning.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

Following assessment and parent teacher meetings children are given a Support and Achievement Plan (SAP) with targets and are supported within the classroom with a teaching assistant during whole class, small group and one to one situations. If the school feels that the child needs more than this support, parents will be asked to fund the individual support the child needs.

We have a good partnership with a private Speech and Language therapist, Occupational therapist and an Educational Psychologist.

We also have a Learning Development Centre specialising in dyslexia with highly trained and qualified staff to offer in class support and one to one lessons.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

In Nursery and Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and use Development Matters as an assessment tool. In the summer term reception children complete a dyslexia screeening test.

Weekly planning identifies targets for the children to achieve.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Lessons and activities are differntiated.

Additional resources are purchased.

Extra support is included in the classroom or on trips.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

We are not a wheelchair friendly setting.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

We arrange taster days for the child.

We arrange meetings for staff to come and visit original setting.

A member of original staff will support child on a visit.

A meeting will be held between teachers to discuss the child.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Support and Action Plans are used to set targets. The targets are reviewed weekly identifing areas of achievement and lack of achievement. Targets are revised and new ones added.
