Special Needs Advice and Counselling Service  (SNACS)

S.N.A.C.S has been set up in West Berkshire to offer counselling to parents of children with special needs/disabilities.   The service is funded by West Berkshire and is free to all people that access S.N.A.C.S. All of the counsellors are qualified and accredited.

The project is available for children and young people with special needs/disabilities from birth to 18 years of age. We endeavour through counselling to assist in supporting and enhancing the resilient family which will in turn help maintain a healthy and happy family life as the child grows and develops.

Call Us is the organisation that co-ordinates SNACS and can be contacted via email or telephone. We would encourage parents and carers to make contact with SNACS in order for the co-ordinator to help you decide what sort of counselling would suit you. After this converstaion a decision will be made with you and the co-ordinator about the best way forward. You may have a visit to your home so that the co-ordimnator can gather more information. A counsellor will be appointed and  a time and venue agreed with you and the counsellor.There are six sessions offered and following this a review will be undertaken with you and the counsellor to decide if further sessions are needed or identify another service that may be more suitable to your needs.

SNACS is a West Berkshire service. We make every effort to be as close to the area in which the parent/carer lives. There are times when this is not always possible. The service is for parents and carers of children who have special needs/disabilities.

Parents/carers can access SNACS if they have a child/ren with special needs/disabilities from birth to 18 years of age.

How are referrals/applications made to your service? (include details of who can refer/apply and referral and application process)

Referral to the co-ordinator of SNACS via phone or email. DIscussions will take place between the co-rdinator and parent/carer and a decison made as to the most appropriate service.

Feedback and complaints procedure

The West Berkshire complaints and compliments leaflet will be made available to parents/carers accessing SNACS

How will I know my child will be safe using this service?

SNACS is confidential, however, if there are concerns for a child SNACS has a responsibility to pass this information on to Children’s Services.
