My main responsibility as a childcare provider is to make the children feel safe, comfortable and happy including those who come from a different culture, have learning difficulties or speak English as a second language.

The children in my care at present do not need extra help but the setting is prepared for that eventuality.  Each child is unique therefore I cater for their needs depending on their age and development.

I registered as a childminder in 2010 after working in a nursery setting for 2 years. I live in Mortimer and have done for 10 years, My house is close to local parks and playing fields, and a short distance from local shops and school/preschools.

I use the whole of my home for childminding, I have a fully enclosed garden available for outside play all year round, I walk to and from the local school. I have completed my paediatric first aid training.

I am currently open Monday to Thursday between 7.30am and 6pm.

Description

My main responsibility as a childcare provider is to make the children feel safe, comfortable and happy including those who come from a different culture, have learning difficulties or speak English as a second language.

The children in my care at present do not need extra help but the setting is prepared for that eventuality.  Each child is unique therefore I cater for their needs depending on their age and development.

I registered as a childminder in 2010 after working in a nursery setting for 2 years. I live in Mortimer and have done for 13 years, My house is close to local parks and playing fields, and a short distance from local shops and school/preschools.

I use the whole of my home for childminding, I have a fully enclosed garden available for outside play all year round, I walk to and from the local school. I have completed my paediatric first aid training.

I am currently open Monday to Thursday between 7.30am and 6pm, I am flexible and will change my opening and closing times to suit individual parents’ needs and requirements.

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

I welcome any information that the parents may like to share with me, from other childcare professionals, ie health visitors, speech therapists, pre-school settings so that I can help to meet the children's needs

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

Parents are always asked to be involved in the child learning and I ask the parents to fill in their childs achievements.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Through initial assessments when a child comes to me, I am able to determine the child capabilities. I ask the parents for information on the child’s needs during the registration and induction process. We would put enough support in place for the individual child and would seek further advice from other professionals as and when needed.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I may need specialist equipment and we would speak with outside agencies if necessary. I would seek advice from other professionals where necessary. I would always allow access from other professionals into the setting.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I would always encourage other professionals and organisations to come and spend time with us. Individual children may have varying needs and therefore we welcome support and advice from everyone. I would use the local children's centre for advice or other agencies.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

The children's progress and development is logged in a learning journal which parents have access to and are able to read and add comments.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

All the children all treated the same and are included in all activities. All children will be included in outings and trips as long as all risks assessments have been carried out.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

N/A

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

For new starters to my setting,I offer and encourage short settling in sessions. Initially the child will attend with their parent/carer, and then together we would encourage the child to be left alone with me for a while to get used to me and the other children. Pre-schools, nurseries and schools generally offer the same service so that the transition is supported as smoothly as possible. I would be happy to share your childs learning and development journey with the next step professionals, with your permission.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

In addition to the children's records,I share my policies and procedures with parents. I also evaluate my practice and give out an annual parent questionnaire. I will, if possible, make changes as suggested by parents If parents are available at the right time, leave them alone with the inspector for a chat. I also regularly update my Self Evaluation form and will include compliments and complaints, if there had been a complaint I would say how I had dealt with it and the conclusion.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Louise Lambourne 07875091066 louise_mugridge@sky.com

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

Compliments and complaints are detailed in my policies which are available on request. The Ofsted poster is on display for all complaints to Ofsted.
