Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

At Acres we have a strong team of highly qualified staff with 2 Sencos. Each child has a key person that works closely with them and their family, completing up to date records, including termly reports that track where the child is.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We encourage all parents/carers to come in for parent evenings and to work in partnership with their child's development. When an IEP is in place we ensure that everyone is working with the same goals. We have an open door policy, so if there are any worries about any child we can discuss how we are going to support and go forwards.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Each child's individual needs are met within the Nursery and Pre-school, working on each child's strengths and interests. We have extra staff within the setting that can do one to one activities and support the key person with adapted activities.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

We would adapt the activities depending on the child's needs and would discuss this within the Nursery with parents/carers.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

We work with the relevant support services to help each child's individual needs. This includes Educational Psychology Service, Speech and Language Therapist, Pre-school Teacher Counsellors and other settings that the child may attend.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Each child has an online learning journal that is added to on a regular basis. The parents/carers are notified when an observation has been added and we encourage parents to add observations from home. We track the children by termly reports and regularly doing observations and parents evenings.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

At Acres we try to adapt all activities so that all children can take part. We will do a risk assessment for all activities.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

We have ramps in place, though we do have some areas upstairs.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

When our children move on we encourage the child's next key person/teacher to come and visit us to share information about them. We will also send them a report about the child, that includes their development stages, interests and next steps.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Feedback from parents is always encouraged.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Rebecca Pritchard - Nursery Manager

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

We have an open door policy for all and an up to date website. We also have regular newsletters and questionnaires. We love to get feedback from all parents/carers including compliments and complaints.
