Wheelchair Clinic - NHS

In general, wheelchair services are available to people of all ages who have a long-term need for mobility help. However, the specific criteria for whether you're eligible are decided locally and will vary depending on where you live.

Before you can be offered a wheelchair, you’ll have to undergo an assessment. This will determine if you're eligible and, if so, what type of mobility equipment is most appropriate. The assessment is normally carried out at NHS wheelchair services centres or clinics.

The wheelchair voucher scheme was introduced to allow disabled people more choice by upgrading wheelchair equipment normally issued by the NHS. Where the scheme is available, the NHS puts a contribution towards a higher specification wheelchair.  Anyone who is registered with a West Berkshire GP surgery who has a permanent need for a wheelchair, and has been known to the West Berkshire Wheelchair Clinic for six months may apply for a voucher. To find out if you are eligible, or to discuss further, please telephone 0118 322 6706.

It is unlikely an NHS Wheelchair Service will be able to provide equipment on a temporary loan.   The British Red Cross loan wheelchairs.
