Adult Placement - The Shared Lives Scheme
Aims to offer support to a variety of people with a differing range of needs and skills. These can be people with learning disabilities, people with mental health problems, older people, care leavers, disabled children becoming young adults, parents with learning disabilities and their children, people who misuse substances and ex-offenders.
The Shared Lives scheme enables adults to live independently in the community whilst being in the supportive environment of a family home. The Scheme is for vulnerable adults, male and female, aged 18 years and over, with a learning disability or with a mental health issue, older people, care leavers, disabled children becoming young adults, parents with learning disabilities and their children, people who misuse substances and (ex-)offenders. If you are eligible following an assessment, you may be offered somewhere to stay for a short break or somewhere to live for a longer period.
You can choose to live with the family permanently, or you can go to stay with them for overnight short breaks, or just visit for a few hours per week.
