KIDS is a national charity providing services across England.
KIDS approach is to empower disabled children and young people to develop their skills and abilities. We create opportunities for them to take part in positive play, learning, leisure, employment training and social activities. We are a unique organisation basing our success upon building a close partnership with parents and providing real solutions to the difficulties which disabled children can face.
KIDS provides a wide range of services to disabled children, young people and their families, through these we aim to:
• Equip parents with extra skills and confidence to nurture and develop their disabled child
• Enable disabled children to have a happy childhood
• Support teenagers and young adults to develop practical, social and interpersonal skills, challenge discrimination and achieve their goals
• Provide parents with support and breaks from the pressures of caring for a disabled child
• Provide fun activities and support for siblings of disabled children and young carers
• Assist local authorities and other organisations in making their facilities accessible and welcoming to all disabled children and young people

- Description
Making it Personal 2 (MIP2) was developed by KIDS from the initial Making it Personal (MIP) project funded by the Department for Education. The initial Making it Personal project aimed to provide support and advice for parents and carers of disabled children and young people, along with commissioners around the subject of personalisation and personal budgets.
MIP2 is the result of a consortium led by KIDS and involving the Office for Public Management (OPM), In Control, Family and Childcare Trust and the National Association of Family Information Services (NAFIS). MIP2 partners worked alongside a number of local voluntary and statutory providers, groups of parents/carers, disabled children and young people and commissioners with an aim of building on the original MIP project to provide a suite of resources aimed at a wide ranging audience.
These resources will support those affected by the SEND reforms brought into force in September 2014 to gain a greater understanding of the changes and the impact these changes will have on the lives of families of disabled children and young disabled people.
One aim of MIP2 is to inform providers and families of the changes that have taken place as part of the SEND reforms and the opportunities and challenges these will bring; as well as exploring the changes necessary for providers to be ready for personal budgets.
The information and support available to commissioners of education, health and social care services has been extended to support their readiness for personal budgets. Work also took place with Families Information Services to ensure they were given guidance on how to share the new information and their responsibilities under the Children and Families Act 2014.
Although the focus of Making it Personal:2 is on personal budgets, it was also important to look at how the local offer is being used to support disabled children who do not have access to a personal budget.
All of this has been achieved by delivering the following:
· For providers: guidance on how to become personal budget ready
· For families: extended guidance on personal budgets and direct payments
· For commissioners of education, health and social care services: refreshed guidance
· For Family Information Services: new guidance to ensure that they are equipped to support families by identifying the range of services available to them under the local offer
· Brand new case studies illustrating real life examples of how the reforms can work positively for all
· New eLearning suite has been developed to explain the changes in simple, easy to digest modules. Users can create a free account
· Zone on the Knowledge Hub for commissioners to share expertise
· Pilot work with families of disabled children who wish to pool/combine their personal budgets to buy services, with SEND pathfinder support
