Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Beansheaf pre-school has a trained member of staff in children with additional needs and SEND. The children are observed and tracked to ensure they are reaching their developmental goals. We work closely with parents to ensure each child is getting the right amount of support that they need

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

Staff have regular meetings with parents to ensure we are working together to meet their childs needs. The pre-school runs the online learning journal with tapestry giving parents instant access to their childs learning and development.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Beansheaf pre-school takes each individual childs needs into account when planning activities and will adapt activities to ensure the childs needs are met

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Beansheaf pre-school has tools to help children with additional needs and learning difficulties such as picture cards and sensory toys

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

Beansheaf pre-school works closely with other agencies such as the childrens centre and wellbeing hub along with the parents

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

The pre-school uses snapshot and extended observations to monitor a childs progress, these are recorded n line in their learning journey and used in the weekly planning to ensure next steps are achieved. A tracker is completed each term to ensure progress is being made, official parent meetings are held once a year but parents are encouraged to speek with their key-person regularly

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Staff talk to parents to find out their childs needs and are discussed during planning meetings to ensure activities are suitable for all children.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

The Beansheaf community centre is fully accessable via ramps. The doors are extra wide giving full access to adults and children with mobility difficulties and wheelchair users

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Children are fully supported into school or a new setting. Learning journeys are handed over to the new setting and visits are made with the child if required to their new school. Teachers and other professionals are invited to the beansheaf pre-school to observe the child.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Staff at the pre-school hold weekly meetings to reflect on our practice. Staff work with other agencies to seek advice where needed and invite them to the setting for support. Parents are always informed when this is happening and are invited to join us. Parents are informed when training is taking place and are welcome to participate.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

;A complaints procedure policy is in place and parents are supported with any concerns. A copy of the complaints procedure is located in the foyer along with the policies and procedures of the setting, these are also available to view on our website. Parents are  encorouged to leave comments on the pre-school website. Parents are e-mailled weekly with a newsletter and all children have a communications book for parents and staff to communicate feedback, concerns or any other query. This is sent home and returned with the child at every session.
