Audlen House makes snacks and meals a social time at which children eat together. We plan the menus for snacks and meals so that they provide the children with healthy and nutritious food. All our meals are prepared daily and cooked on the premises by our cook, we currently hold 5 star environmental health rating. We have a nutritionally balanced menu plan which is updated seasonally. We incorporate a wide range of meals with influences from around the world. We endeavour to cater for any dietary needs but owing to concerns with regard to allergies we can only cater within the scope of the nursery with respect to the severity of the allergy and whether any additional special precautions should be taken. We do not knowingly allow nuts, especially peanuts onto the premises and ask that parents/carers and staff also respect this. All babies follow home routines and parents/carers and staff will liaise closely when weaning is undertaken and new foods introduced

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

The children have observations taken accross the 7 areas of learning, these are used to track the childrens development using the development matters document.  The childrens development is moderationed regularly, and it is then identified whether they are emerging, developing or secure in stage bands, using the child's chronolgigical age we will then identify if a child is  at risk of delay, delayed or working in a stage band higher. We then use this information to analysie why a child may be at risk of delay or delayed, and appropriate action put into place. Observations, photos and learning stories are recorded on a secure online learning journey, and shared with the parents, who can also then comment on the observations and post their own observations and photographs.  Where required individual play plans will be put in place in consultation with the child's parents and any other professionals that may be involved.  Where necessary referrals are made to other professionals and advice sought.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We share information with the parents on a daily basis when they drop off and collect thir child.  Parents evenings are held every term where the learing journies are shared, althought he parents can have access to their childs learning journey's at any time.   The children have a 2 year check completed on them and this is shared with the parents in a one to one meeting, where their input is sought.  If we have any concerns about a child's development, their behaviour, emotional well being or welfare we would invitte the parents in for a meeting to discuss and put possible statergies in place in order that we are working in parnership with the parents.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

All the children have their indiviual delopment stages, needs and interests taken into account when planning for their activities and care.    The planning is undertaken by the group senior in consultation with all the key persons.  Where nessessary the nursery SENCO (Manager) will be involved and individual play plans put in place alongside the parents

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Depending on the child's individual needs we would adapt our teaching/ caring to suit their needs, for example we could use visual aids such as pictorial timetables and makaton signs sor children having difficulties with communications.  A higher adult to child ratio maybe put in place to ensure a child recieves the appropriate adult support.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

It would depend on the child's needs, we would provide specialist equipement where needed, one to one support if necessary, adaption to our care routines.  We access where needed support from Pre school teacher consellors, health professionals, professionals within the council.  If we feel it necesssary we would access pre school SEND funding.  We would consult with parents verbally and writing thought this process, this would be in the form of meetings, telephone calls and written.  The Nursery Manager (SENCO) will ensure that any advice received from support services is implemented within the the nursery and will monitior it to ensure that it remains in place and effective, this would be done in the form of meetings with the appropriate staff and observations.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

We will monitor the child's progress through regular observations referrring to development matters and moderation.  A child with an individual play plan will be reviewed regularly, the time scale for this will depend on the individual child's needs and targets, but as a general guide it will be approximately every half term, this would be done alongside the parents and any other professionals involved in a meeting. If a child attends another setting we consult with them using a setting liason form, where appropraite we will meet with them.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Where a child has additional needs activities will be adapted appropriately to invlove them, this may be in the form of speciaist equipment different teaching methods, , higher staff ratios or one to one support.  Depending on a child's need a written risk assessment may be carried out for some activites to ensure the child's safety and well being is being met as well as the other children and staff.  These adaptions or risk assessments where appropriate will done seeking parents opinions and advice.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

We have wheelchair access into the building and a disabled cloakroom.  The playrooms for 0-2 & 3-5 year olds are on the Ground floor and playrooms for 2-3 year olds on the first floor.  The first floor is accessed by a short flight of stairs.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

We liase with the school / new setting vebally and where Tapestry our online learning journey system is also in use a transfer of data will be arranged along with a written transition report which includes the developmental stage bands the children are working in.  If nessary a meeting with the new setting will be arranged alongside the parents to pass on any further information.  Teachers of school setting vistit our setting to meet the children.  Transistions between groups within our setting are all done on an individual basis, the parents are invited to come into the nursery to visit the new group and to meet their child's new key person.  The nursery arranges a meeting for the key person and the new keyperon to meet to share information to ensure a smooth transition.  The children visit their new group several times for short visits prior to their move.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

The Manager and regional manager meet regularly to assess whether we are effectively meeting the needs of all the children in the nursery, where necessary policies will be reviewed and updated, this information will be shared with the staff and the parents.  We use parent questionaires to help in this process.  We reglarly review and update out SEF form to helf assess our practice.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Sarah Pettifer, Nursery Manager. Audlen House Day Nursery 131-133 Station Road Thatcham RG19 4QH. Telephone 01635 876667 for information or to arrange a visit.  Email us on office@audlen-house-nursery.co.uk

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

We regularly have parent questionaires sent out to parents.  We have parents evenings once a term.  We arrange one to one meeting with parents if they would like to discuss and issue.  We have an open door policy whereby the parents can come and talk to the nursery manager whenever they would like.  Complaints will be dealt with as swiftly as possible in consultation with the parent making the complaint, we will respond to this in writing where necessary.  Complaints should be made to the nursery Manager, Sarah Pettifer or the Regional manager Audra Penny.
