I live in a four bedroom detached house with a conservatory and a secure garden. I also have a covered car port for outdoor play. I have plenty of outdoor equipment and toys and we live near several lovely parks.

The children have full use of the downstairs and I have two bedrooms upstairs with cots for sleeping. The house is not currently wheelchair accessible.

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Every child has a personal diary and learning journal which is updated daily, and can be seen on request at any time. I encourage parents to add their own feedback and observations should they wish to. I continuously observe the children in my care and am always available to discuss a child's developmental progress.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I work closely with parents to involve them in their child's development to help build their confidence, self-esteem and independence.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

I use the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum as a guide for the children in my care. I understand that each child is unique and has different abilities, therefore, I plan activities according to the age, stage and interests of each individual child in my setting.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Although I do not currently have any children in my setting with additinal needs or learning difficulties, I have previously looked after children on the autistic spectrum. If I needed to, I would seek professional advice to ensure that any additional needs are met.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I understand that each child is unique and has different abilities, therefore, I plan activities according to the age, stage and interests of each individual child in my setting.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Every child has a personal diary and learning journal which is updated daily, and can be seen on request at any time by parents. I encourage parents to add their own feedback and observations should they wish to. I continuously observe the children in my care and am always available to discuss a child's developmental progress.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I treat every child the same, however, I adapt activities and trips to suit their individual needs. All trips are risk assessed and all parents asked to give permission for their child to participate. This ensures that every child is safe and learns whilst enjoying themselves.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

My home is not currently wheelchair accessible.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I look after children of different ages, who attend the local primary school and nursery. I walk the children to school in the mornings which helps familiarise the younger children with the school environment. This also means that children are able to meet teachers and visit classrooms prior to starting at school, which helps them feel more settled.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I create personalised plans for each child which are discussed and agreed with parents. I reguarlarly ask for input and feedback from parents to ensure each child enjoys their time in my care, and meets their learning goals.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Please contact me, Susan Wood on 01189 302209 or on my mobile, 07796127156.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I give parents questionnaires to ensure I receive regular feedback and suggestions for improvements. I also have a complaints form in place which I make all parents aware of, however, I feel that good communication is key to building a close working relationship with parents, and I encourage them to chat to me if they have any concerns or worries.
