Description

We are a small, committee run playgroup set in the grounds of Pangbourne Primary School.  We care for children from 2 years to 5 years during West Berkshire term time.  We work closely with The Early Years team in West Berkshire and have contact with Reading and Oxfordshire council also. We tailor our routine and service to meet the needs of the children that attend and are able to assist with additional help that is required particularly when the time comes for a child to move to their next setting. We work closely with the families and professionals directly involved with each child's care.

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Children's progress is monitored constantly and if a child struggles to settle or fails to progress, this will be picked up during our half termly progress reviews. We will discuss this with parents at the earliest opportunity, or during our termly parent meetings. Parents are asked to share details of their child's health, progress and interests on entry, and are encouraged to raise any concerns either at the Playgroup when dropping off or picking up their child, or on the telephone at any time during business hours.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We will discuss our observations with you and ask you to identify your priorities for your child's development. We will base our support for your child on our agreed priorities, taking advice from any other professionals involved in your child's care.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

The interventions and individual support we put in place for your child will depend on their specific needs. We will always follow the advice of therapists and consultants to help your child develop and achieve the best possible outcomes.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Children with additional needs will be taught using whatever strategies are recommended by their specialists. We have a visual timetable and will use photographs of both necessary and motivating activities to encourage understanding and communication.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

We will provide one to one support wherever possible for any children with additional needs, and follow any physiotherapy, occupational therapy or speech and language exercises requested by their specialists. Our staff will receive training in the use of required techniques wherever possible.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Progress is monitored constantly and written reviews undertaken every half term. In the case of a child with additional needs we will invite parents in for a meeting to discuss progress and agree next steps together.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Activities are planned so that all of the children can join in at a level appropriate to them. The learning intention for a child with additional needs may be different, but the activity will be the same, and the child will receive whatever support they need from a member of staff to enable them to join in.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

We have an access ramp leading to our main entrance and a disabled toilet in our cloakroom. The doorway into the main room is wide enough for wheelchair access and the furniture inside is all moveable so that it can be rearranged as necessary to suit all of the children attending at any one time.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Transition requirements are individual and we will discuss your child's requirements with you and their new setting as soon as it is known. Extra transition visits and meetings will be set up if required.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

The effectiveness of our SEN provision is reviewed annually, at which time the individual progress of any children with additional needs or disability will be considered. Parents' or carers' comments are invited at every review and every parent or carer is welcome to join the committee to contribute to the growth and development of the SEN provision or any other element of our practice.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Please call us on 0118 9841661 and talk to our Manager Emma Carney

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

We ask for parents' feedback with every report written for every child, and with a questionnaire at least annually. Comments both positive and negative are welcome at any time as we seek to constantly improve our provision.
