Winchcombe Speech and Language Resource is on the site of Winchcombe Primary School. It is for children with a statement or EHC Plan who require specialist - integrated support for their speech and language difficulties whilst following a mainstream curriculum. It is a 15 placement Resource.
KS1 and KS2 children receive specialist teaching alongside intensive speech and language therapy. They spend mornings covering Numeracy and Literacy in the Resource base and afternoons within the mainstream setting. This provides them with the opportunity to generalise and apply their skills across the curriculum. Children in FS remain within the mainstream FS setting whilst accessing a personalised and intensive speech and language therapy programme.
Specific LSA support is provided in mainstream when appropriate.
Resource staff work as a team in conjunction with mainstream teachers and outside agencies.

General Provider
The Resource caters for pupils with a severe, specific speech and language impairment which has a significant impact on the pupil’s learning and development, and which requires specialised adult support in order to access the curriculum, and for the pupil to make academic and developmental progress. The Speech and Language Resource can cater for pupils who meet the following criteria:
• Meet the LA’s statutory assessment criteria for Education, Health and Care Plans with a Primary Need of Speech and Language Difficulties
• Have a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
• Have a level of ability within the range expected in a mainstream school
• Demonstrate the ability to function within a mainstream educational setting with appropriate differentiation
• Require intensive, specialist Speech and Language provision to achieve the outcomes identified within their EHC Plan.
This includes: • A highly personalised speech, language and communication programme within a flexible approach to adapt to the needs of individual pupils
• Intensive support, input and advice from a specialist language teacher
• Access to intensive speech and language therapy
• Access to small group and individual work focusing on Speech, Language and Communication needs
• Access to specialist speech, language and communication teaching integrated into the whole school environment
• Where appropraite, supported inclusion in the mainstream environment
• An environment and ethos of awareness of the needs of pupils with Speech and Language difficulties within the wider school, and where all staff have relevant training.
1. All applications are sent to the Local Authority’s Education, Health and Care Assessment Panel, placement decisions are made by that Panel.
2. A child is identified by a relevant professional as having a severe speech and language impairment. This is likely to be a Speech and Language Therapist, a Pre-School Teacher Counsellor, a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) or a Class Teacher. It is evident that the child requires provision over and above that which is provided within mainstream.
3. An Educational Psychologist makes a non-verbal assessment and observation.
4. Reports are collected from all professional working directly with the child. This is collated into an MPA (Multi-Professional Assessment)
5. Paper work is submitted to the SEN panel for consideration.
6. The process of collecting reports from professionals and submitting all the paper work to the panel should take no longer than 20 weeks. Parents are included and consulted throughout the process.
Any complaints should be directed initially to the Teacher in Charge of the Resource, or to the Head teacher at the school.
