ASD Family Help - Carers Workshop

This is a FREE workshop for all carers or parent carers. Professionals are also welcome to book onto this course if they would like to use the information to support parent carers or carers that they support within their roles. 

This course is for anyone in an unpaid caring role (another adult or your own children with SEND). It builds on what you already know, giving a better understanding of the recognition you deserve as a carer. It identifies what further support, rights & benefits you are entitled to as a carer.

This course takes place over 2 mornings (with one additional optional morning) 

Session 1 - Tuesday 4th July from 10 - 2.30pm.  In person at Thatcham Baptist Church Thatcham

Session 2 - Tuesday 11th July from 10 - 12pm. In person at Thatcham Baptist Church Thatcham

Session 3 - Friday 21st July from 10 - 11.30am. In person at Pineapple Cafe, 20 Rowan Dr, Newbury RG14 1LY  (This is an optional catch up session)

 

The course aims are:

  • To connect carers, provide peer support and share ideas and experiences
  • To acknowledge that they are a carer and entitled to recognition and access to further support
  • To familiarise trainees to understand their rights, and entitlements as a carer
  • To build confidence & empower trainees to ask for/receive what they are entitled to as a carer
  • To obtain a tool kit’ of ways to help trainees with their own health and wellbeing

Description

We also provide activities for children/young people with their who are autistic or have any other associated learning difficulty.

No diagnosis required, all welcome.

We are not able to offer any one to one support to children within our activities.  Most activities are for families, so parents/carers remain responsible for their children at all times. 

All staff and volunteers at sessions receive in-house training from ASD Family Help regarding awareness for children & young people with additional needs and safeguarding. Additionally all staff/volunteers are trained in Safeguarding via the NSPCC online training portal or Wokingham Borough Council training portal and Prevent Training via the Home Office online.

All staff and volunteers at sessions have enhanced DBS checks.

At least one member of staff will hold a paediatric first aid certificate at any activity.

The majority of staff/volunteers working for our charity have additional needs themselves or have family members/children with additional needs.

How will I know my child will be safe using this service?
