Befriending Bus - for older people to speak to family and friends via technology

The Befriending Bus is an exciting resource for older people who don’t have any technology at home but would love to speak to family and friends that do. If you have a loved one at home alone in the Newbury and Thatcham area email handybus@vcwb.org.uk 

The new technology bus has been launched to get the older generation out, connecting with loved ones, both in person and digitally.  The Befriend Bus, supported by housing association Sovereign, will encourage social interaction on weekly visits to those living in sheltered housing, social housing developments and other areas in Newbury and Thatcham, via referrals.

The bus, which aims to put a stop to loneliness, features a laptop, screen and speakers which will help residents connect with their loved ones using Facetime.

The Befriend Bus coordinator will help residents with the technology as well as making arrangements for them to become regular shopping trip passengers.
